Mangaluru Girl Dances into History with 170-Hour Bharatanatyam Record

In a mesmerizing display of dedication, discipline, and passion, Mangaluru’s Remona Pereira has danced her way into the record books. Performing Bharatanatyam continuously for an astonishing 170 hours over seven days, she has redefined the limits of human endurance and artistic devotion.

Remona Pereira’s 170-Hour Bharatanatyam Feat

At just 21, Remona Pereira has achieved what most classical dancers can only dream of. The final-year BA student from St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, performed the intricate and emotionally rich Bharatanatyam for 170 hours straight, surpassing the previous record of 127 hours. Her performance was held at the college’s Robert Sequeira Hall and has been officially recognized by the Golden Book of World Records.

Years of Training Behind the Triumph

This wasn’t an overnight accomplishment. Remona has been a disciple of Bharatanatyam for over 13 years. Balancing her studies with dance practice, she trained 5–6 hours daily. Her world record journey began long before this performance, with months of rigorous preparation, diet control, and stamina-building routines.

The Marathon Performance and Its Challenges

Performing for seven days without a major break is no small feat. According to the guidelines, she was allowed a 15-minute break every three hours. During this, she consumed light, nutritious food like bananas, curd, and soft rice. Hydration with tender coconut water and constant health checks ensured she remained fit throughout the event.

A Community Behind the Achievement

Remona’s success was not a solo act. She was supported by:

  • Faculty and administration from St. Aloysius College
  • Medical staff including doctors and ambulance teams
  • Fellow students and family cheering her on

The Artistry in Her Endurance

It wasn’t just about time; it was about quality. Remona performed various Bharatanatyam pieces with grace, rhythm, and emotion. Her music was pre-recorded, and each sequence reflected her versatility and deep understanding of the art form.

  • Different Bharatanatyam styles showcased
  • Detailed expressions (Abhinaya) maintained
  • Flawless execution despite physical fatigue
