UAE Announces Up to Six-Day Eid Al Fitr Holidays for Public Sector

Eid 2025 holidays

Abu Dhabi, March 17, 2025 – Nera News

The UAE government has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for public sector employees. The holiday will begin on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, as per the Islamic calendar. Work is set to resume on Shawwal 4, according to a statement released by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources on Monday.

Moon Sighting to Determine Exact Holiday Duration

The UAE’s Moon sighting committee will convene on March 29, 2025, to determine the start of Eid Al Fitr. If the crescent moon is sighted on that evening, Eid will fall on Sunday, March 30, marking the end of Ramadan. In this case, public sector employees will enjoy a four-day break from March 29 to April 1, as Saturday is already a weekend for most workers.

However, if the crescent moon is not sighted, Ramadan will extend to 30 days, and Eid will begin on Monday, March 31. In this scenario, government employees will get a five-day break from March 29 to April 2.

Sharjah Employees Could Receive a Six-Day Holiday

For government employees in Sharjah, where Friday is a weekend, the break could extend up to six days. If Eid falls on March 30 (Sunday), Sharjah’s public sector workers will have a five-day holiday from March 28 (Friday) to April 1 (Tuesday). If Eid begins on March 31 (Monday), they will receive a six-day holiday from March 28 (Friday) to April 2 (Wednesday).

Anticipation for a Long Weekend

With a minimum four-day break and a potential six-day weekend for some, residents across the UAE are looking forward to festive celebrations, travel, and family gatherings. Businesses and tourism sectors are also preparing for an expected surge in activities during the holiday period.
